What is the best cigarette tube?
Posted by TDoms on Sunday, 23-Mar-2008
I've been searching around the internet for the answer to this one simple question: what is the best cigarette tube? To be a little more specific, I'm looking for a tube that's white with a brown tip. Please help!

I highly recommend the Zen ES full flavor king size tubes. They're $2.00 for a box of 250 at LBSS and they have a very neutral taste, always fit the machine nozzle and a 17mm. long filter. Here's a [link]

It's easier to ask what's the worst tube. And that would be Premier's offerings. You get what you pay for and Premier really likes to give it to you.

I like a 17mm filter and use Rizla & Zig Zag.

I was trying to stay out of this, if for no other reason than just "shutting up"
I like the Zen tubes myself, due to the 17mm filter and the tipping end, however I was going to name Rizla FF as maybe one of the "very best" examples, drawing on only the knowledge I have from experience, which doesn't include tubes like mascotte or el rey, which I have an idea are also good tubes
but anyway, speaking to you Dano, don't the Rizla FF's you use have a 15 mm filter???
I am in need of some tubes and am thinking Rizla this time, maybe...

You're absolutely right, the Rizla FF tubes have a 15mm filter. The Zig Zags have the 17mm filter. Personally I can't taste any difference between the two filter sizes although when you get up to some of the larger filter sizes being offered now there is a big difference in the taste.

The Mascotte & El Ray are fine tubes also, with a 15mm filter. My point was that in my opinion, after having tried just about every tube on the U.S. market with a 15 or 17mm filter, that essentially they are all perfectly smokeable, including such lowly regarded names as Bugler & Tops, with the exception of Premier, which holds the distinction of the only tube I've ever smoked that was, un-smokeable. Obviously somebody likes them because they are everywhere, but then again some people think Thunderbird is good wine too :)

I delitefully totally agree here, while taking an opportunity to point out that Bugler tubes are GREAT tubes

I thought the Rizla FF's might have been about the most neutral but that is getting down to splitting hairs
someone many of us knows told me he has watched the tubes come off the machines and that much of the difference perceived by smokers here is imaginary, but I must jump in and say it isn't, totally
the Premier tubes are complete bat guano......
the machine I am on now is kicking them out with the 15 mm's with overhang so it looks like I've gotten better along with a little better machine
I'm good to go with whatever element length.....

For someone to say, well I've seen the tubes coming off of the machine and any perceived difference in quality is an illusion, seems to me, to be a short sighted statement. For that to be true one would have to believe that all the tube makers are using the exact same paper, from the exact same source with the exact same glue and the exact same handling methods. I wonder if this person saw the Zig Zag lights coming off the machine several years back when they had that giant screw up? (the screw up where the filter bands were omitted, the paper was crumpled at the end of the tipping paper and when you opened the box you said, what the hell is this?? :)

I'm not so astute as to know the technical or chemical components of a tube by simply smoking a few. However it is my opinion, based on nothing more than having purchased tens of thousands of tubes (gasp I smoke too much:) that the Rizla and Zig Zag FF tubes are without doubt consistently manufactured to the highest quality over any other tubes on the market.
That's not to say I don't think there's a difference between the Rizla's that were made in Germany and the ones that are now made in Canada, I do, but I still like them.

The answer is too subjective to qualify one answer. You will get differing views depending on who you ask. Take a look at the tube "reviews" on the SYO and MYO sites and then you simply have to try them and see what works best for you.
