Java ...Oriental?

Posted by dave z on Saturday, 05-Apr-2008

Not sure where to put this, but was curious if anyone knows whether Java is considered an Oriental leaf or some other? I know its a component in Jester and Indo Shag, as well as some cigars. Other than the grades and a few different varieties, I found very little info on this type. Any info would be appreciated. :))

Oriental, AKA Turkish, is grown mostly in the Eastern Mediterranean (old Ottoman Empire/Turkey). Java/Javanese could refer to tobacco grown on Java island in Indonesia or, more generically (like Turkish), to tobaccos grown in Maritime Southeast Asia (Indonesia and the Philippines). Very different tobaccos.
