Opened tobacco storage?
Posted by Mike B on Tuesday, 08-Jan-2008
SO, I just got my first 14oz bag of Windsail Platinum and I want to be able to keep it fresh for longer. My 3.5oz can seemed to dry really fast.
Any suggestions? Keep in mind that I am in Phoenix where the humidity is rarely over 20%

There's a ton of information in the Tobacco/Storage section as well as info on re-hydrating at the main stuffyourown.com site [link]

Using anything from Tupperware & clones to fancy silicon seal jars should solve the problem. Also try to keep from opening the container too often, and if you don't have enough containers for all your tobacco, whenever you open a bag be sure to gently squeeze out most of the air before you re-close it.

if you keep the bag rolled up tight minus air it'll be fine but of course there are classier methods (i double bag mine)

It's the Windsail in the "Premium Pouch." Isn't that resealable like tupperware?

The zip-lock bags aren't perfect, especially if you get any bits of tobacco in the 'zipper'. Also, any time you open the bag the tobacco is immediately going to either gain or lose moisture depending on the RH of the air.

Here's a quote from a 1972 patent application [link]
"A second, somewhat related problem is encountered when goods are stored under purely temporary moisture-tight conditions. For example, pipe tobacco containers are subject to frequent opening and closing. Even if the container is well sealed while closed, the humidistasis is disturbed with each opening and must be re-established by some means."
