New Model Topomatic

Posted by mike c on Friday, 14-Mar-2008
oh yes and we dropped in on the husband with the new Topomatic and it's down again, filling sticks only half way, but his ego won't let him hear my words......he's oiling the thing....yuck
mc laughing.....(I even had my righteous Royale-Matic-turned-Ultimatic/Supermatic...chortle chortle, but again his ego didn't want to borrow it for a few sticks so it stayed in the car)

Hi Mike,
I think all these machines should include an extensive trouble shooting section in the owners manual written by a succesful operator who's solved all the common problems they can have. Trouble free use of all the cigarette making machines is somewhat of an acquired skill. All the manuals should also show a link to this MYO and the SYO Forum or the manufactures should each have their own users forums. My Topo works perfect and as soon as it doesn't
I'll be writing about how the problem was solved here on the forum. Jeffo

He's a mechanic/electrician with a huge ego over his new paycheck/job, and is "too good" for this forum or anyone's advice
don't get worried, doesn't mean you will have trouble
all I was telling you is that despite the stainless compresser/cutter it appears this machine requires cleaning where the plastic cutter ones don't seem to (aside of cleaning behind the spoon I guess, mine never has much to mention. although I clean it on rare occasions)
keep on enjoying!!!!

Hi Mike,
I know the type only too well I worked in the auto repair business for almost 40 years. You might as well be talking to the wall. I think a lot of the cleaning build up stuff is caused by too moist tobacco. My TOM hasn't needed any cleaning or collected any build up yet. I have several of those plastic cutter in supply here although I'm going to keep the original in until I experience problems. I like the chamber size feature that it supports with the divider left in and would lose with the plastic cutter installed.

and I agree with you!!! TOTALLY....the cutter is WAY better than the stock supers
apologies I am like a broken record, but if I were unable to stuff my PTT straight out of the bag in all it's moist glory, I'd likely quit smoking
I HATE dry tobacco....DnR's are not too bad but alot of that comes too dry for my own preference
on a side note: this machine I am using with said moist baccy works so well it shoots the tobacco straight to the filter EVERY SINGLE time (when I was just using 100's), and reveals the machine's true limitation with them, unless you use dryer stuff (I guess) in which case it would fill perfect I imagine
I'm a happy geezer cowboy!!!!

I like my baccy about 70-72% RH a nice happy medium. It's easy to maintain and makes the machine work great. I agree the D&R is a little dry out of the bag but they want to stop mold 'till you get the stuff. Right?

Tell this guy: (He's a mechanic/electrician with a huge ego over his new paycheck/job, and is "too good" for this forum or anyone's advice) this that I read on a license frame once: "I'ts what you learn after you know everything that counts." This on a horse trailer with 2 rumps staring at you. LOL

I'm gonna eventaully mod the machine I traded to his wife:
that'll fix 'em
also: again- I don't expect you to have problems at all but for people that have followed my comments since he got it: it sure has needed a lot of parts over this time period
and he isn't stupid, just a barfly with a paycheck ego

Speaking of parts on the TOM: Republic must be awful proud of their unique slotted cutter (which they call a "Tamper") They get $8.40 for one and "only" $7.50 for shipping. Supermatic parts from Arbro are much more reasonable, $5.00 for shipping and a website to order from. Republic only takes phone orders.

My mistake, they're $8.20 for the new TOM cutter not $8.40. Not too bad considering a pack of Marlboro's is here $5.00 here in the super market.

just thought of this again:
he's bragged more than once about them giving him free replacement parts when calling them up: so if true: follow his lead, I'd fogotton about that!!! and if not, gang up on him for me so I am armed!!!! haha!!!
also, I think the Arbro cutter is 10, so no big deals there

Hi Mike,
I just checked the Arbro site and they show the P-47 plastic cutter as $5.00 but I'm sure there's a lot more involved making the aluminum TOM cutter than the plastic Super one...Jeff

ok everybody let me slide here, but I realized that after I posted and felt stupid so elected to let it go
it's the 5.00 mandatory shipping I had locked in the mind
that's why I have several things like caps, which silly me, only need to be held in place by the gripper overnight, etc

By the way Mike,
In reference to: oh yes and we dropped in on the husband with the new Topomatic and it's down again, filling sticks only half way, but his ego won't let him hear my words......he's oiling the thing....yuck
The TOM manual states: "Keep all moving parts dust-free and oiled with a multi-purpose household oil". I lube only things like the cam, h-links and spoon lever with lithium grease in areas which won't come in contact with the tobacco plug...Jeffo
