McClintock Tobacco
Posted by jim t on Thursday, 14-Feb-2008
Been using McClintock full flavor for some time, couple years I guess. Ran into JR Tobacco the other day to get some, it was in a bag instead of the usual round container but looked the same. After stuffing a few I started to notice something wasn't tasting right so I looked at the bag. DAMN, it's no longer Stokkebye, no longer Danish, and is made in POLAND. How in hell did this happen. This stuff is lousy. Anyone know something comparable to the old McClintock I was used to? How about Stokkebye Danish Export or Gold? I am ticked off.

I too liked the McClintlock full flavor, tried the pouch and canister. My local store could not keep a regular supply. Had not tried the polish stuff yet and am not too interested. You might want to try Venguer from D&R. They have Venguer, Venguer Platinum and Venguer light I think. I was smoking the regular for a couple of years and the last time I ordered I tried the platinum. It's my every day smoke now and think I'll order more. You could try the little tubs they sell or you could cal them and ask them to send you a sample. The shipping is the killer, makes it all cost more. But still cheaper than premades.

I can't seem to find out but guessing that Stokkebye has sold the McClintock name to this company,Commonwealth Brands out of Reidsville, NC, and they are making McClintock in Poland of all places. It is not the same, in fact it is bad stuff. I have tried most of D&R brands too. So far I haven't found anything as good to me as the old McClintock. I guess it's me, but it was the only one that didn't choke me up. I only smoke about a pack in 2-3 days. I also found D&R to have too much stem and even found string and plastic in their tobacco. I have some Venguer regular, I haven't tried the Platinum or light Venguer though. I'm only an hour away from D&R so orders get here fast and not that bad shipping. I've been ordering my favorite tubes in bulk from them, the Premier brand. Real good prices. I'm going to try another Stokkebye and hope they haven't sold out totally. My advise is don't get any McClintock unless you can find some old stock that is still Stokkebye. Thanks for your reply.

Stick McClintock into the search (top right). The related news and McClintock reviews page are at the top.
