I don't understand why anyone buys this trash. When you first buy a Jetlite, it will work consistently. God help you when you have to refill it. No matter how many times you put butane in the lighter, NEVER AGAIN will you get a persistent flame. I have refilled this piece of shit 4 times in the last hour, following up each refill with NUMEROUS attempts to get the damn thing to light again. At this point, I am sure I will have callouses from pressing the damn button repeatedly. I have yet to get a flame which lasts beyond 1/10 of a second.

I therefore advise ALL to avoid the Ronson Jetlite lighter, as well as any other Ronson product, since this is the SECOND Jetlite I have had with this problem, having thrown the first one in the garbage where it belonged.
I called the 800 number on the Ronson website to ask them if I should also throw this piece of shit in the garbage as well. They are sending me two replacements free of charge. However, at this point, I don't expect to ever have a Jetlite that actually works once refilled.

Update: After an hour and half with this lighter, I was finally able to get a persistent and consistent flame. You must use an ink pen to press down on the gas intake valve. After doing this about 5 times, the damn thing finally lit.

I have a 5.82 oz can of Ronson Multi-Fill butane fuel, which is the only fuel I have used since purchasing the first Jet-lite. It still didn't work until I pressed the fuel intake valve 5 times after refilling.

Try purging it before refilling. Do the same thing you're doing but keep purging it until no more butane comes out. Then refill it and wait a few minutes before trying a light.

Hua, I haven't found this to be necessary. I never purge the lighter I use every day, nor the others I own. I have 4 but am only using one of them daily to put as much wear on one lighter as possible to check for defects/longevity. I simply hit it with butane once every couple of days even though it really doesn't need it that often. Heck, I take 5 to 10 minutes to make the smokes for the day, so hitting the lighter with fuel taking all of about 10 seconds isn't a big deal.

I have let all 4 lighters run completely out of fuel and refilled them with no problems after figuring out the nozzle problem, see link. One thing I haven't done is to test how many days of my average usage they will last without a refill.
[Update Re JetLite Lighter] [link]
Everything is still working fine with all 4 including the one I use everyday.

Check the flame adjusting screw. I have found if I set it all the way to the lowest setting the lighter will have a short burst of flame and quit. If you will turn the set screw slightly higher than the lowest setting it works fine.

I have 4 JetLite lighters and don't have a problem with any of them. Also, if butane spews out AT ALL when you refill them, the nozzle isn't fitting correctly on the filler intake vlalve and you won't get a properly filled lighter.
Hope this helps.

The filler nozzle on the butane can should NOT slide over the filler nozzle on the lighter AT ALL! That is to say that it should fit snuggly on the end of the lighter filler nozzle. If it slides down the shaft of the lighter filler nozzle, you won't get a good fill.
At first I thought the metal plate at the bottom of the nozzle would push down to allow the fill. Not so. The stem or shaft of the lighter filler nozzle has to be pushed down by the refiller nozzle in order to fill the lighter successfully.
Other than that, adjusting the flame height set screw somewhere above the absolute lowest setting should fix the problems you were having.
Good luck and let me know how it goes. I really like these lighters and had some similar problems as you had, but what I have suggested to you fixed all of them for me and the lighters work very well for me.

Absolutely! It means "flints flying out of the lighter at the most inopportune of times."

At the point where I posted my update here [link] , the lighter was working and the problem was solved. However, I had already adjusted the flame per the instructions given to me by phone via Ronson, which agreed with exactly what you suggested in your post.

Based on this quote from you,
"You must use an ink pen to press down on the gas intake valve. After doing this about 5 times, the damn thing finally lit. "
I really didn't know what you were talking about.
In any case, glad you got it figured out. Too bad the thread has an overall negative tone.

What I was talking about was earlier referred to as 'purging' by others who responded, as mentioned in this [link] post. And yes, you note a negative tone due to the very negative experiences I have had with these lighters. If a product isn't working and one calls the producer of said product for information and said producer's instructions do not lead to resolution, and said producer then offers to replace said product, then the producer has admitted it can't be fixed with the usual methods and so also has admitted the product is defective.

Further, the second Jetlite I purchased, having thrown the first one away, had a charcoal or greyish color. In less than 30 days, This greyish color was worn away on the edges of the lighter, revealing an orange toned metal underneath, which looks amazingly similar to copper. This lead to four questions:
1. Why is the finish on the product wearing away in less than 30 days?
2. How much more of the grey color will wear away revealing the underlying orange toned metal?
3. If I continue to carry this lighter around in my pocket, will the copper (if this orange metal is in fact copper) turn the fabric of my clothes strange colors, as copper is known to do?
4. Why is it, after 27 years of smoking, I have never owned a lighter that required I ask such questions?
There are two things I absolutely detest in products:
1. When the product doesn't work
2. When the product requires one jump through hoops in order to make the product work.
If either of #1 or #2 are true about a given product, I take it as my duty to warn others away from such products, so that they don't end up going through the same hassles I have with a given product. My advice to others is therefore to avoid the Jetlite at all costs. Yes that's negative. It's also very honest. At the same time, I admit my own responsibility in this. If I had left well enough alone after I pitched the first Jetlite in the trash, the original thread would never have been posted and the succeeding negative tone of my posts would not have occurred. Like a fool, I proceeded to purchase a second one after throwing away the first one. That second one is now turning colors and I don't know if it will stain my clothes or not. That's my fault. I knew after purchasing the first one to expect problems, but I bought a second one anyway.

I guess I feel a little bit like David Brown. I had some problems with the JetLite early on, but it isn't garbage. I guess what irks me, is that you went off on a tirade trashing the product here and I could see other answers to how you were treated.

If you came across to the people you contacted at Ronson the same way your messages in this thread do, then I would think they simply sent you new lighters to try and appease an irate customer. I would call that very good customer/public relations and not admitting anything other than they know how to deal with an irate customer. Good for them!
As for the copper color and "finish" coming off. I have 2 with that finish and 2 with the "steel" case. The "steel" cases don't have a "finish" applied, so they can only scratch, but not have the finish wear off. I preferred these from the beginning, as I like the brushed steel look.
The dark lighters with a "finish", just like any other finish applied to metal, will wear away. This is nothing unusual or any reason to be upset.
You, like me, had a problem with a product and couldn't figure it out. I finally did figure it out, but I didn't fly off the handle and post such a negative trashing message about the product.
As I have said, I have 4 and they all work fine. I guess the learning curve completes a circle for some.

My standard disclaimer, well one version of it anyway:

I have no affiliation, monetarily or otherwise, with any of the products I review or critique on this site, other than I have tried and in some cases use them regularly and I pay for them just as most everyone else does.
If the case ever occurs in which I do have an affiliation or financial interest in a product, I will say so in no uncertain terms and will provide full disclosure.

Mike C, I know you weren't suggesting that I was reviewing the Jetlite or anything else for profit, but some might view it that way. Also, I don't think I have anywhere near that kind of clout to influence Ebay or any other retail outlet or manufacturer or the users of such services.
Everything ends up on Ebay sooner or later! In this case, you will be better off going to CVS and saving the shipping and hassle of Ebay. Not as cheap as I found them at Walmart, but still under 5 bucks.
Thanks for your confidence in me though! LOL!
Have fun!
