Cases

When I first started syo, I got a number of cases. I got a few fancy metal ones off ebay for around $6 or 7, which were not that great a deal after paying shipping. I got the 5 pack of metal cases from ryotobacco ($11), and the plastic two piece that came with the Supermatic. The problem with all of these, except the cheap two piece which is inconvenient to use, were they were not airtight in the least, and after a day or so the cigarettes dried out. This is likely not a problem unless you are used to smoking fresh cigarettes.

I then ordered some cases from D&R - the Gizeh, Smokey, Premier square hinged, and a couple of the $1.25 hinged cigarette boxes. The 1.25 hinged cigarette boxes are worthless. One would not stay closed and trying to press the clasp inward so maybe it would, it broke off. The other stays closed, barely, but with a large gap. I would not grace this box with the presence of an SYO.

The other three are great, though. The Gizeh holds 21 and comes with a divider, holding 12 on one side and 9 on the other. It is a bit harder to open since there is no lip or dent to lift the lid. The Smokey holds 18 and is divided into three sections. It has a lip on the lid to easily open it. Both are relatively airtight. The Gizeh hinge runs the full length of the lid so may be more durable then the Smokey, which has two small hinges but both appear to be very well made. The Smokey case shuts with a satisfying snap. I really like the dividers in the Gizeh and Smokey. These allow one to segregate different types of SYO in the same box. Since they are the same price, I would probably recommend the Smokey more since the construction quality is a bit higher, I like the design better, it is easier to open, and, well, it's prettier!

The square hinged Premier, which holds about 18 or 19, is the best product I have seen in a "European" style case. It may not withstand a lot of pressure from sitting on it since it is plastic, but otherwise seems very durable. The hinge design is sturdy. It is not as airtight as the Gizeh and Smokey but better than any of the other types like this I have seen.

I am still trying to find a convenient and compact case that could hold a hydration button for longer term storage.

After using my Smoky cases, I picked up one Gizeh case with my last order. The Gizeh "may" seal better but it's a much thinner case and isn't completely square in the corners making it harder to fill. The top won't just snap open like the Smoky, you must push in on the case below the lid to open. A full case will cause some minor crushing when performing this task. This also makes opening the case a two handed task rather than a one handed task as with the Smoky case.
