Mitchell Thomas 100mm flip-top

Posted by cheap & chippy chopper on Thursday, 12-Apr-2007

This is a variegated plastic case. I have nothing to compare it to because it's the first MYO one I've ever ordered/seen.

There's no brand or mark on it of any kind.

Holds 18 of my fattish SYO's.

$3.00 from American Thrust. The picture on their site is green, but (less happily) what they sent me is orange.

Hope this is useful! :-)

Cases- Gizeh/cigarettes cheaper death

Posted by short sharp shock on Thursday, 02-Nov-2006

...I am new so please bear with me if I don't provide perfect accuracy....I think I read through this thread completely ...anyway...this site has led me to all kinds of investigation since I just returned to MYO/SYO...my plastic cigarette case came from the nauseating cigarettes cheaper,
however I looked on the bottom and it says Gizeh. I had noticed that before and wondered what the hell Gizeh was and thanks to this site,,,I do...anyway I like the case as it holds 21 king size (important factor imo) and is flip-top. I see the much desired Smokey only does 18. I found one place selling an actual Gizeh case, which is only a little different, as mine holds 9 in one compartment and 12 in the other where the actual Gizeh looks to hold 15 in one and 6 in the other...hmmm....anyway I forgot to grab the link but if interested a google search will lead you to a shop that looks to be a cigar shop!!! and they sell it. So I didn't realize Cigarettes cheaper had bit the dust and I am wondering if it was because they were selling illegal lighters (missing the childproof part)(they got sued) or because of their tobacco, etc. I'd like to know. Also I don't believe I have seen wooden cigarette boxes mentioned and I will do a post on these.

Cases- Old Wooden Cig Boxes

Posted by short sharp shock on Thursday, 02-Nov-2006

having just reviewed the thread, I didn't see mention of old cigarette boxes. back when I was doing MYO before, my girlfriend graced me with two old wooden cigarette boxes before she went back to NY. The poor things have been sitting too long. The way I am currently making smokes humidity hasn't been a word to worry about (yet). All I can say is that I personally prefer to get my tobacco moist when new and I can't imagine anything more elegant or 'sexy'..(this coming from an article about turntables and phonograph records of which I am a self-professed expert, in my previous life),,,anyway one of them holds a couple packs more or less and I have been known to lug it around, and the other is larger and holds several. I tend to make up many packs with fresh tobacco and fill them up and I always imagined any sitting time was simply letting the tobacco expand in the tubes a bit and 'mature'. I have never noticed a problem with drying out, etc. If anybody likes the old LP records and wants hard earned secrets no problem to mail me private.

New Tins from EbayPicked up two new tins off ebay. Not air tight by any means, but cool looking. Each hold about 23 king size.

Ouch! Band-Aid Bubblegum tins...

These tins hold 18 king size cigarettes and are pretty sturdy. They can be found in the candy section of any Walgreen's & I'm sure a lot of other places too.

Mass cigarette storage

Posted by Jderringer on Tuesday, 18-Apr-2006

Mass cigarette storageFound a neat container for my cigarettes. It's made by Lock&Lock, it's a 8.4 cup rectangular airtight storage box. Bought it at my local Meijers. It's like a tupperware box w/ a 4 point locking lid that has a silicone gasket. Holds about a carton give or take and cost about five bucks.

Top cig cases

Posted by Jeff March on Tuesday, 11-Apr-2006

Top cig casesHi, Have any of you seen this two piece slider? Its an opaque clear, but I cant figure out the bulge. Is it for a book of matches? Maybe Im stupid or they are, but if you fill the case, be careful, cause sliding down the top will crush your smokes if they migrate into that area. Jeff

label cases

Posted by Dan on Tuesday, 21-Feb-2006

I've been smoking several of the D&R tobaccos, and have four of the Smokey cases which are pretty good.Sometimes I forget which tobacco was in which case. I went to D&R's website and copied the logos for the different types of tobacco then printed them out and taped them to my cases.

Great recycled case

Posted by Paul on Saturday, 29-Oct-2005

Just get those empty mint tins like Jennifer posted earlier. They hold around 16 smokes (you can squeeze more but they become squished). I work in a shipyard and carry my smokes everywhere all the time. Most others leave their smokes in their tool bags. I end up crawling and climbing all over interior of ships over and under piping and ventilation systems and though these tins get dented, they hold up. I always ask folks I know for their tins when they are done.

Old Bugler metal case

Posted by Robert Burns on Thursday, 04-Aug-2005

My wife's father had an original Bugler Cigarette
case and we were wondering what it might be worth. It
has no serial numbers of any kind. It is a flip top
metal can with a picture of the bugler (of course),
mostly blue with black on the top left and bottom
right, bordered with a yellow band or ribbon, black
top. If you can give us any info about it, I would
appreciate it. I am bbmail4@Yahoo.com. Thanks.

Cigarette boxes

Posted by zippy on Tuesday, 21-Jun-2005

I want to know if anyone has ever found a supply of new cardboard cigarette packs?

I have been MYO for 2 years now and have been using used flip top cigarette boxes that hold maybe 18 MYO'd smokes. I know that ZigZag offers them occationally, but would like to find where I could outright buy 20 or so at a time.

If anyone has any information, It would be appreciated.

Otterbox 1000

Posted by G on Monday, 02-May-2005

Otterbox 1000I have been using this Otterbox 1000 for a couple of weeks now. Its not the prettiest but works far better than any other case I have tried. [link]

It holds a normal soft or hard pack. Put the pack in the box and it will stay fresh for at least a week (my longest test). Supposedly its good to 100 feet underwater and is uncrushable. Costs 11.50 plus shipping.

Cases

Posted by syot on Friday, 29-Apr-2005

When I first started syo, I got a number of cases. I got a few fancy metal ones off ebay for around $6 or 7, which were not that great a deal after paying shipping. I got the 5 pack of metal cases from ryotobacco ($11), and the plastic two piece that came with the Supermatic. The problem with all of these, except the cheap two piece which is inconvenient to use, were they were not airtight in the least, and after a day or so the cigarettes dried out. This is likely not a problem unless you are used to smoking fresh cigarettes.

I then ordered some cases from D&R - the Gizeh, Smokey, Premier square hinged, and a couple of the $1.25 hinged cigarette boxes. The 1.25 hinged cigarette boxes are worthless. One would not stay closed and trying to press the clasp inward so maybe it would, it broke off. The other stays closed, barely, but with a large gap. I would not grace this box with the presence of an SYO.

The other three are great, though. The Gizeh holds 21 and comes with a divider, holding 12 on one side and 9 on the other. It is a bit harder to open since there is no lip or dent to lift the lid. The Smokey holds 18 and is divided into three sections. It has a lip on the lid to easily open it. Both are relatively airtight. The Gizeh hinge runs the full length of the lid so may be more durable then the Smokey, which has two small hinges but both appear to be very well made. The Smokey case shuts with a satisfying snap. I really like the dividers in the Gizeh and Smokey. These allow one to segregate different types of SYO in the same box. Since they are the same price, I would probably recommend the Smokey more since the construction quality is a bit higher, I like the design better, it is easier to open, and, well, it's prettier!

The square hinged Premier, which holds about 18 or 19, is the best product I have seen in a "European" style case. It may not withstand a lot of pressure from sitting on it since it is plastic, but otherwise seems very durable. The hinge design is sturdy. It is not as airtight as the Gizeh and Smokey but better than any of the other types like this I have seen.

I am still trying to find a convenient and compact case that could hold a hydration button for longer term storage.

Hansaware Cases

Posted by D. on Saturday, 11-Dec-2004

Hansaware CasesFrom the manufacturer's web site:

"Hansaware is a company that specializes in German nickel cases from original die stamps of the 1920's & 30's. We offer a wide assortment of cigarette cases, business card cases, credit card cases, pewter flasks, nickel checkbook covers, tobacco boxes, pill cases, eyeglass cases, cigarette rolling machines..."

I've been using their #845/N84 "Conan" double-sided nickel business card case for a few years. Still like new even though always carried in hip pocket. Holds fourteen of my hand-rolled filterless cigarettes that are somewhat thicker than SYO and retail cigarettes. Their web site includes dimensions for the cases, so figuring which case is best for any size cigarette is easy.

EuroJet

Posted by Kurt Wall on Sunday, 07-Nov-2004

If you are in the market for sturdy, segmented cigarette cases, have a look at the "EuroJet" over at Roll Your Own Tobacco.

The downside is that you can only buy them in lots of 12.

Zen flip top and H&R cases

Posted by Jennifer on Thursday, 28-Oct-2004

The zen flip top plasic case is a basic crush proof case. It has one divider and holds 21 SYO smokes. The case I usualy use is one of the metal cases that came with the bags of H&R tobacco. Its pretty good for a free ciggy case. My only major complaint is that it only holds 16 smokes. Its to bad that H&R stopped offering them with the bags of tobacco. I could use a few extra.

Cheap decent metal case

Posted by Jennifer on Saturday, 22-May-2004

Believe it or not. An altoids tin makes a decent ciggy case. Its just long enough to hold SYO smokes. I don't remember how many it holds, but its a little under a packs worth

Tins from Production Smokes

Posted by Tim Mc. on Friday, 06-Feb-2004

I use a variety of tins from specialty releases of production smokes. American Spirit sold a top sliding tin that was just bigger than a pack of reg. smokes with their anniversary edition release about 1 year ago. It is one of the most solid tins out there. It may even be made out of steel. Good production smokes to enjoy too! It fits 20 SYO-made smokes perfectly and can be used like a soft pack of sorts... flicking your wrist with the top slid back a bit allows a single smoke to just pop right out. Very Fonzarelli like, you dig?

Others I use constantly are all of the different wide, flat, hinged tins that the flavored Camels come in and the limited run Salem slide top, curved tin. These are also great tins. They are sturdy but not exactly a lifetime gaurenteed tin like the American Spirit one (that thing is t.o.u.g.h.). The hinges are made of the same metal but very thinly crafted. Enough abuse will make them start getting sloppy. Overall I still have all of mine (7 uniques total) after two years. Not too bad. The Camel tins also pack well in a purse or pocket. Unlike the American Spirt one though, they can spill some loose dust or tobacco that is in the tin into your pocket or purse if the locking lip on it gets loose on you. ... as for the Camel flavored smokes, give them to someone who might appreciate them or put them into your local hazordous waste material dump. You know what makes a Camel or a Salem-flavored cigarette flavored? Its this bizarre neon blue pellet inside the filter that has been infused with the flavor they are trying to impart. Yes... SCARY.

A word about the Salem tins, they fit great in pockets, not so great in purses, are a bit more sturdy than the Camel-hinged ones and unless you wash them thoroughly will impart a menthol flavor to your homemades. Maybe you like that but it turns me off. I have only been using one of those since July so I really can't comment on their longevity.

Anyway, I bring all of this up, because although they aren't all perfect like the American Spirit tin, they are all very functional, fit 20 of your homemades and carry with you well, even if you need two packs for a particularly wild evening out on the town. And if money is key for you as it is for many of us, you do get 20 smokes with the the tin! Can't argue with it except if, like me, you have aversions to little pellets of an unidentifiable construction that can intensely flavor hot air. (brrrr! I just got a chill! And it isn't the memory of the "Frosty Freezey" Salem menthol "blend" coming back to haunt me!)

100mm case?

Posted by Kevin on Friday, 09-Jan-2004

I stuff 100mm. Has anyone found a 100mm case? I've only found two piece king size cases which will hold 100mm but it's easy to crush the longer tubes. A flip top plastic case would be nice.
